Cuarta Sesión: Viaje a los planetas

Feliz Pascua! Esta semana solamente llegaron cuatro niños por el feriado, pero la pasamos chévere! Esta semana empezamos viendo el dibujo del espacio que hizo Juan en el pizarrón. En dos grupos hablamos de lo que nos llevaríamos si fuéramos a hacer un viaje al espacio. Decidimos que las cuatro cosas que definitivamente nos llevaríamos serían: Luna la perrita, unos cuadernos, mucho chocolate y helado de vainilla! También hablamos de lo difícil que sería llegar a Saturno porqué tendríamos que pasar por el cinturón de asteroides.


Después de esa charla, fuimos a las computadoras a trabajar en el programa Erase all kittens para aprender a usar html y C++. Nos divertimos mucho modificando y añadiendo el código para crear barras mas largas y bloques para que el gatito pudiera llegar a la meta en cada nivel. Luego tomamos una pausa del juego para la merienda donde una de las chicas logró comerse 14 fresas! Después de haber retomado fuerzas, volvimos a la sala de computación a ver el corto Viaje a Marte, que se trata de un niño que pudo ir a Marte con su abuelo, aunque vimos que de pronto no salió de la tierra en realidad, y que tal vez solamente habían ido al Valle de la Luna. Luego decidimos hacer una página de web de un planeta imaginario que cada niño o niña inventó. Resultaron un planeta de pájaros llamado "The planeta of all the birds", y un planeta de tortugas comiendo fresas llamado Ami. Practicamos un poco trabajando con el código para cambiar fotos y descripciones de nuestros planetas, y podremos terminar la próxima semana cuando regresen los demás niños para divertirnos más.

Happy Easter! This week, only four children came because of the holiday, but we still had a great time! We started by looking at the drawing of space that Juan had made on the blackboard. Then, in two groups, we discussed things we would bring if we were to take a trip to space. We decided on four definite items: Luna the puppy, some notebooks, and a lot of chocolate and vanilla ice cream! We also spoke about the difficulty of going to Saturn, since we would have to pass the asteroid belt.

 

After, we went to the computer room to work in the program, “Erase All Kittens,” and learn how to use HTML and C++. We had a lot of fun modifying and adding code to create longer blocks, so that the kitten could reach the finish line of each level. Then, we took a break from the game for snacks, where one of the kids ate 14 strawberries! We returned to the computer room to watch a short video, Viaje a Marte about a boy who could go to Mars with his grandpa. However, we saw that the boy didn’t leave the land of reality, and that perhaps he had only gone to Valle de la Luna. Then, each child began to make a webpage about an imaginary planet that he or she invented. They created a planet of birds called “The planeta of all the birds,” and a planet of turtles eating strawberries called “Ami.” We practiced a little working with code to change photos and descriptions of our planets, and will finish next week when the other children return!
