L@s niñ@s empezaron con un juego de memoria para practicar sus habilidades de memoria para el día de la presentación final. La esperanza es que la mayoría de lo que presenten sea de memoria. Lions and Tigers and Bears, Oh my! The children started the session with a game of memory to exercise memorization skills for the final presentation day. Each child named the animals previously mentioned by the other children in addition to adding another animal to the list. The children also played a couple rounds of Simon Says.
The group of older children proceeded to watch a slideshow of pictures of the characters in a carnival parade. During the presentation, each child paid particular attention to the costume of the character he or she will be presenting during the “Carnaval del Círculo” parade. Each kid wrote notes in Spanish about personal choices for his or her costume. In addition, each child wrote a description in Sp
anish that he or she will memorize for the final presentation. Meanwhile, the group of younger children worked on their posters for the final presentation.
After the break, the younger children practiced their dance to “La canción del Caballito.” To emphasize the cultural aspects of the song, the kids learned about some of the instruments that are heard throughout the song, too. The group of older children met in the computer lab to continue their investigation of carnivals of Hispanic/Spanish countries for their final posters. Each pair was assigned a country. The pair looks for information in Spanish regarding the history, characters, instruments, and music/dances during the carnival of the given country. The kids seem to have noticed similar themes across carnivals.
Each week, there is significant progress on the paper mache “vejigantes.”
