Today was the fourth day of Círculo, meaning we are already one third of the way through the program! The Corito has been working hard to prepare songs for the holiday concert, and began today's lesson with a vocal warm-up. Next, we used the red cups to practice counting the rhythms of quarter notes, half notes, and whole notes. After reviewing De Colores and Mi Burrito Sabanero, we began to learn a new song, La Peregrinación. The song tells the story of Mary and Joseph in Bethlehem, which we learned about during snack time. 

Today was the first day of culture presentations, and we learned about the celebration of New Year in Peru. At the stroke of midnight, everyone eats twelve grapes for good luck - one grape for each month of the year. Then, everyone walks around the block with an empty suitcase and a pouch of money. This is to symbolize the hope of travel and prosperity for the coming year!

When snack was over, the kids colored pictures of the animals and shepherds from the songs. No two drawings were the same! Next, we learned another new song called Niño Lindo, which features two soloists from the Corito. To end the lesson, we reviewed Zagalillos, Antón Tiruliru, and Oh, Hanukkah.

The Corito has learned seven songs so far, and will continue learning more next week! See you next Sunday!

Hoy fue el cuarto día del Círculo Juvenil de Cultura, lo cual significa que ya hemos completado un tercio del programa. El Corito ha trabajado para preparar las canciones para el concierto en diciembre, y hoy empezamos con ejercicios vocales. Luego, usamos vasos rojos para practicar a contar los ritmos de las negras, blancas, y redondas. Después de repasar De Colores y Mi Burrito Sabanero, empezamos a aprender una canción nueva, La Peregrinación. Esta canción cuenta de María y José en Belén, lo que hemos aprendido durante la merienda.

Hoy fue el primer día de las presentaciones culturales, y aprendimos sobre la celebración del año nuevo en Perú. A la medianoche, todo el mundo come doce uvas para la buena fortuna – una uva por cada mes del año. Luego, todo el mundo camina alrededor de la cuadra con una maleta vacía y una bolsa con dinero. La maleta y la bolsa representan la esperanza de viajar y prosperidad en el año nuevo.

Cuando terminamos la merienda, los niños colorearon dibujos de los animales y los pastorcitos de las canciones. ¡No había dos dibujos iguales! Luego, aprendimos otra canción nueva, Niño Lindo, que la presentan dos solistas del Corito. Para terminar la sesión, repasamos Zagalillos, Anton Tiruliru, y Oh, Hanukkah.

¡El corito ya ha aprendido siete canciones, y va a continuar a aprender más en la próxima semana! ¡Nos vemos el próximo domingo!
