Julianne Schell

Today was our third meeting of Círculo Juvenil.  We began with reviewing different rhythms and learning new ones using the red cups.  We reviewed whole notes, half notes, quarter notes, which we worked on the previous week, and learned about eighth notes and sixteenth notes. Then we warmed up with De Colores and later started learning a new song called Mi Burrito Sabanero.  This week, we had one of the volunteers, Nirajan, play guitar while we sang. To finish up the first part of the session, we all drew all farm animals that were going to appear in the story we would be told during snack time on the chalkboard together. During snack time, we read a story called The Donkey that Wanted Friends/El Burro Que Quería Amigos by volunteers Ashwin and Julianne.  All of the other animals thought that the donkey was too big to be their friend.  But after the donkey saved all of the other farm animals from the fox, they realized that he was a great friend. For the second part of the session, we sang and danced to review the song Oh Hanukkah and got to use all the percussion instruments to play the rhythm along with the song.  We also reviewed Anton Tiruliruliru and Zagalillos, and worked on rhythm again by separating into three groups that each clapped a different rhythm at the same time. After that, we were introduced to another new song called Niño Lindo.  Finally, as we waited for the parents to arrive, we drew on the chalkboards again.  We had a great session this week and are anxiously awaiting the one next Sunday!

            Hoy tuvimos nuestra tercera reunión del taller del Círculo Juvenil. Empezamos repasando distintos ritmos y aprendiendo nuevos usando vasitos rojos. Repasamos las redondas, las blancas, y las negras, y aprendimos sobre las corcheas y semicorcheas. Entonces entonamos con De Colores para después empezar a aprender una nueva canción titulada Mi Burrito Sabanero. Esta semana, uno de los voluntarios, Nirajan, tocó la guitarra mientras cantábamos. Para terminar la primera parte dibujamos todos los animales que iban a aparecer en el cuentico que estábamos por escuchar durante la merienda. Los voluntarios Ashwin y Julianne nos leyeron el cuento titulado The Donkey Who Wanted Friends/El Burro Que Quería Amigos mientras merendábamos. A todos los animales de la granja les parecía que el burro era demasiado grande para ser su amigo. Pero, después de que el burro los salvó a todos de un zorro, se dieron cuenta de que iba a ser un gran amigo. En la segunda parte de la sesión, cantamos y bailamos para repasar la canción Oh Hanukkah y pudimos usar todos los instrumentos de percusión para tocarlos con la canción. También repasamos Antón Tiruliru y Zagalillos, y trabajamos con los ritmos otra vez divididos en tres grupos, cada uno palmeando un ritmo distinto todos a la misma vez. Ya para el final, se nos presentó una nueva canción, Niño Lindo, y mientras esperábamos que llegaran los padres, nos pusimos a dibujar en la pizarra otra vez. ¡Tuvimos una maravillosa sesión esta semana y esperamos con ansias la del domingo que viene!
