Tercera sesión: Tambores!

El domingo pasado tuvimos la oportunidad de trabajar con una artista de la comunidad llamada Geña, quien nos trajo historias, canciones y bailes con tambores para compartir con chicos y grandes.

Al inicio de la sesión se emplearon algunos minutos para hacer actividades relacionadas con palabras aprendidas y la lectura del librito que los chicos recibieron la semana anterior durante la sesión de fútbol.  A partir de allí, pasaron a una actividad liderada por dos de nuestros voluntarios para presentarle a los chicos vocabulario de instrumentos musicales y un juego de adivinanzas.

Geña nos trajo "La leyenda de Yayo", en la cual cada instrumento se presentaba, dándole a los chicos la oportunidad de tocar cada uno. En esa parte de la sesión también tuvieron la oportunidad de apreciar el dibujo de un coquí. Ya cuando estaban familiarizados con los instrumentos, Geña les mostró cómo tocar los ritmos básicos del tambor de bomba. Cada niño tuvo la oportunidad de seguir el ritmo en uno de los instrumentos. Al final de esta actividad pudieron improvisar la canción Bámbulae Sea Yá! a partir de los ritmitos que habían aprendido y practicado.

Luego de la merienda que generosamente trajo una de las familias del taller, los chicos compusieron versos para la canción que habían estado tocando. A eso agregaron los pasos básicos del baile de bomba, y quienes quisieron bailar así lo hicieron. La sesión terminó con la integración de los ritmos del tambor y la clave, el baile, y los versos de Bámbulae Sea Ya!

Nos vemos el domingo entrante para aprender un poco sobre la salud y el cuidado de los dientes y de nuestros cuerpos.

LAst Sunday we had the wonderful opportunity to work with an artist from the community. Geña brought us stories, songs, and dances with drums to share with kids and adults.

The first part of the session was devoted to activities related to the soccer words we had become familiar with and the book the kids had received last session. From there, they passed on to an activity designed by some of our volunteers with the objective of introducing the kids to the musical instruments and a guessing game.

Geña brought us "La leyenda de Yayo", a story in which each intrument introduced itself, giving the kids the chance to play each one.  At this point they also had a chance to look at the image of a coquí frog. When they were all familiar with the instruments, Geña showed them how to play the basic drum rhythms.  Each child was able to follow the rhythm on one of the instruments. Toward the end, they improvised the song Bámbulae Sea Yá! based on the rhytms they had learned and practiced.

The snack was delicious, and it was donated by one of our families. After eating, the kids made up some lines for the song they had been playing, adding them to the basic steps of the bomba dance. Those who felt in the mood for dancing did. The session ended with the integration of the drum and clave rhythms, the dance, and the verses of Bámbulae Sea Ya!
