Muy ocupado@s creando posters con ayuda de l@s voluntari@s

Este domingo pasado, después de saludarnos en grupo, ¡empezamos a hablar de nuestr@s equipos y jugador@s favorit@s inmediatamente! Algunos de l@s niñ@s vinieron con sus camisetas y uniformes de México, Argentina, FC Barcelona, etc. para mostrar su orgullo internacional. Para apreciar más la cultura internacional del fútbol comenzamos viendo unos videos cortos de un@s de l@s jugador@s más famos@s del mundo: Pelé y Diego Maradona (de Argentina) y Marta (de Brasil). L@s niñ@s, recién inspirad@s, empezaron la próxima actividad, siguiendo con el tema de equipos y jugador@s favoritos. Se separaron en grupitos para hacer unos carteles artísticos de sus equipos favoritos. Utilizando colores diferentes, fotos cortadas, pegamento, y un poco de información sobre cada uno de los países, hicieron carteles hermosos de: Brasil, México/Chivas, Argentina, España/FC Barcelona, Cuba y Uruguay.

Durante la merienda, l@s niñ@s escucharon una presentación de nuestr@ amigo, Ash, sobre el equipo de fútbol femenino en Colombia. Aprendieron del equipo y las jugadoras, partidos que habían ganado y perdido, y al final vieron un clip de un video del partido contra Azerbaijan (¡que Colombia ganó 4-0!). Después hicieron un corto ejercicio para resumir lo que habían aprendido: los colores de la bandera colombiana, las posiciones de unas jugadoras del equipo, y el resultado final del partido contra Azerbaijan.

En la segunda hora, un@s niñ@s fueron a hacer títeres con Kathy mientras l@s demás terminaban sus pósteres. Después de este proyecto, fuimos a otra sala con las líneas exteriores de una cancha de fútbol marcadas en el suelo con cinta. L@s niñ@s tuvieron que ayudar a nombrar y poner las líneas interiores y así aprender bien los nombres particulares de las líneas: el arco, el área chica, el área grande, etc. Por la lluvia, no pudimos ir afuera para jugar en una cancha real, ¡entonces fuimos a hacer otra manualidad divertida! L@s niñ@s hicieron "mini-jugador@s" de sí mism@s- cortaron una foto de sus caras y la pegaron encima de una torre cilíndrica de papel que pintaron con sus cuerpos y pies, ¡listos para jugar! Las actividades de la segunda sesión fueron una buena manera para ver cómo se integra el fútbol en las vidas e intereses de l@s niñ@s.

One of the posters created on Sunday

This past Sunday, after greeting each other as a group, we started to talk about our favorite players and teams right away! Some of the children came with their shirts and uniforms representing Mexico, Argentina, FC Barcelona, etc. to show their international pride. In order to further appreciate international soccer culture, we started by watching a few short videos of some of the most famous soccer players in the world: Pelé and Diego Maradona (from Argentina), and Marta (from Brazil). The children, newly inspired, started the next activity and continuing with the theme of our favorite teams and players. They separated into small groups to make artistic posters of their favorite teams. Using different colors, cut-out photos, glue, and a little bit of information about each country, they made beautiful posters of: Brazil, Mexico/Chivas, Argentina, Spain/FC Barcelona, Cuba, and Uruguay.

During the snack, the kids listened to a presentation by our friend, Ash, about the Colombian women's soccer team. They learned about the team and the players, games that they won and lost, and at the end a short video clip of their game against Azerbaijan (that Colombia won 4-1!). Afterwards, they did a short exercise to summarize what they had learned: the colors of the Colombian flag, the positions of a few players, and the final score of the game with Azerbaijan.

In the second hour, a few of the children went to make puppets with Kathy while the rest finished their posters. After this project, we went to another room with the outline of a soccer field on the floor marked with Duct tape. The kids had to help name and put the rest of the inner lines on the field and thus learn the particular names for each of the lines: goal, 6-yard box, penalty box, etc. Since it was raining, we could not go outside to play on a real field, so we went to do another fun arts-and-crafts activity! The children made "mini-players" of themselves by cutting out a photo of their face y sticking it on top of a cylindrical paper tower on which they drew their bodies and feet- ready to play! The activities of the second session were a good way to see how soccer integrates into the lives and interest of each participant.
