Feliz Día de Acción de Gracias/ Happy Thanksgiving

Las semanas han pasado rápidamente, y en cuestión de nada ya nos encontramos a finales de noviembre, acercándonos a la sesión final de los talleres de otoño. Durante estas semanas l@s chic@s han estado preparando sus presentaciones finales para los dos talleres. L@s más pequeñ@s han estado preparando un baile y unas canciones para presentarlos a sus familias y la comunidad, así como unos poemas que han estado creando y unas máscaras hechas de papier maché.  En la sesión final estarán compartiendo todas estas cosas y un poco de lo que han aprendido sobre las tradiciones que han aprendido de los países de los que vienen ell@s y/o sus familias.
El grupo de los más grandes ha estado ocupado en la investigación y la filmación para el video que han creado sobre la geogarfía y la gente de Perú y Puerto Rico.  Estarán presentando el video para l@s asistentes el domingo próximo, 4 de diciembre.
Dada la festividad, es un estupendo momento para darles las gracias a las familias que han compartido durante estas semanas las meriendas y las presentaciones culturales. Igualmente, a nuestr@s ayudantes voluntari@s y maestras y naturalmente a l@s chic@s por todo su trabajo durante estas nueve semanas. A propósito de los agradecimientos y de la época de Acción de Gracias, les compartimos este video y canción que nos ha enviado una maestra y lectora de nuestro blog desde California. Que lo disfruten y que disfruten también de esta breve temporada de descanso con sus familias y seres queridos.

These weeks have passed quickly, and in the blink of an eye we find ourselves in late November, approaching the final session of the Fall workshops. During these weeks the kids have been preparing their final presentations for the two workshops. The smaller ones have been preparing a dance and some songs to present to their families and the community as well as poems and masks made ​​of papier mache that they have been creating. In the final session they will be sharing all these things and a little of what they have learned about traditions from the countries they and/or their families come from.

The group of the older kids has been engaged in research and filming for the video they have created on the geographies and people of Peru and Puerto Rico. they will be presenting the video to their families and the community next Sunday, December 4th.

Given the holiday, it is a great time to thank the families who have shared during these weeks both snacks and cultural presentations. Also, we'd like to thank our volunteer helpers, the teachers, and naturally the kids for all their work during these nine weeks. Speaking of gratitude and Thanksgiving time, let us also share this video and song that was sent to us by a teacher and a reader of our blog from California. Enjoy it and also enjoy this brief period of rest with your families and loved ones.

Sesiones 4 y 5 de los talleres

Entrado ya el otoño, hemos tenido ya que empezar a buscar lugares para mantenernos a salvo del frío.  Por suerte los domingos hemos tenido tardes lindas en que l@s chic@s todavía han podido disfrutar un poco del tiempo afuera en los talleres. 

El grupo de los más pequeños ha seguido dedicado a las manualidades y los juegos, acompañados muchas veces por música en español. Los más grandes terminaron de trabajar en sus videoclips sobre el Perú y ahora han empezado a investigar sobre Puerto Rico. La semana entrante estarán empezando a hacer sus filmaciones. 

Las familias, por otra parte, también han estado muy activas: no sólo varias de ellas han querido compartir abundantes, deliciosas y nutritivas meriendas con l@s chic@s de los dos talleres. También algunas han empezado a compartir con el grupo de los más pequeNos las primeras “presentaciones culturales”. En los dos domingos anteriores tuvimos la oportunidad de ver a l@s chic@s aprendiendo canciones, juegos, música del Uruguay, y sobre comidas, bebidas y objetos tradicionales de Argentina. En las próximas semanas vendrán más, y ya les estaremos contando sobre la celebración del día de los muertos y mucho más.

Esperemos que el clima nos sea todavía benévolo el domingo entrante, que quizás fuera demasiado pedir para el final de octubre...

The Fall is definitely here, and we've begun to have to look for shelter from low temperatures with some frequency. Luckily, Sunday afternoons have been mild and nice for the kids to still be able to go outside for a while. 

The group of the younger ones has kept busy with crafts and games, listening to Spanish-language music often. The older ones finished with their videoclips on Peru and are now researching on Puerto Rico. They will start filming next Sunday. 
Families, on the other hand, have also been very active. Not only have they generously brought delicious and nutritious snacks for the kids to munch on; some of them have also begun to share "cultural presentations". The past two Sundays the kids learned songs, games, and music from Uruguay, and about  traditional food, beverages, and objects in Argentina. The following weekends there will be more, and we will keep you posted on the Day of the Dead celebration and so much more!
Let's hope the weather will still be kind to us, though it is the end of October, after all...

Pancartas, máscaras y video

El domingo anterior, l@s mAs pequeN@s estuvieron trabajando en el diseNo y las imAgenes de sus mosaicos culturales. Para ello, luego de pintar la bandera del paIs en el que estAn trabajando, encontraron y recortaron imAgenes de tradiciones e Iconos de esa regiOn. Hacia el final empezaron a crear unas mAscaras.

En el grupo de los mAs grandes, el domingo pasado hicimos varios proyectos que estaremos poniendo en nuestro video sobre el PerU. Un grupo de chic@s se encargO de la música, otro de las danzas y un chico empezó a hacer la introducción de nuestro video. Estuvieron muy contentos y participaron mucho con sus ideas creativas. Ellos tienen muchas ganas de realizar sus ideas por medio del uso de la tecnología y de poder compartirlas con tod@s.

The previous Sunday, the younger kids worked on the design and images for their cultural mosaic. After painting the flag of the country they are working on, they found and cut out pictures of traditions and icons of the region. Towards the end they started making masks.

The older kids worked on several projects to include them in the video they are creating on PerU. A group of kids was in charge of the music, another one of dances, and one of the kids started making the introduction of our video. They were very happy and were involved with lots of creative ideas. They are keen to work on their ideas through the use of technology and share them with all.

Iniciamos talleres de otoño!

El pasado 25 iniciamos nuestros dos talleres de otoño: “Mosaico cultural” (para niñ@s de 5-8 años) y “Realización de cine y video de animación” (para niñ@s de 8 a 12 años).

En el “Mosaico cultural”, l@s niñ@s se divirtieron en una dinámica de integración: imitaron un animal y trataron de localizar a otr@ niñ@ que estuviera imitando al mismo animal. Entre perritos, conejos, gatos, monos y elefantes finalizaron la actividad y se presentaron mencionando su nombre, edad y el país en el que nacieron sus padres y ellos.

En la segunda actividad los niños cantaron dos canciones infantiles, “Itzi, Bitzi araña” y la canción de la rata vieja.

Después de la merienda jugaron a “la mancha”, o “la trae” al aire libre.

En la segunda hora se les mostró el mapa de América Latina y España, y colorearon el mapa e identificaron el país del que proceden sus padres y/o ellos. Finalizamos la sesión jugando en equipos. L@s niñ@s tenían que imitar a un animal y el otro equipo debía adivinar de qué se trataba. Se divirtieron imitando, jugando y compitiendo.

En la sesión del 4 de octubre usaron pinturas (acuarelas) y pinceles para pintar las banderas de sus países entre música, canciones, y rondas infantiles. También fueron al laboratorio para usar las computadoras en un juego didáctico relacionado con el tema del taller. 

En el taller de video, l@s más grandes participaron muchísimo y fue muy gratificante ver cómo pueden ponerse de acuerdo y opinar sobre diferentes temas. Decidimos que nuestro proyecto será hacer 3 video clips sobre 3 países diferentes, Perú, Puerto Rico y España. Vamos a trabajar un país durante 3 domingos y vamos a discutir sus bailes típicos, música, cocina y lugares turísticos. L@s chic@s harán un video clip por medio de entrevistas, van a imitar personajes, van a dibujar y todo esto lo van a incluir en el video clip. La actividad de conocernos fue muy buena debido a que los estudiantes pudieron hablar de todas las cosas que les gusta y de sus pasatiempos. La idea de usar la tecnología en este taller les encantó.

El anterior domingo trabajaron en el laboratorio durante casi toda la clase para avanzar en su investigación. La próxima sesión estarán empleando las cámaras para grabar sus entrevistas y video clips.

On Sunday the 25^th we began our two fall workshops "Cultural Mosaic" (for kids 5-8 years old) and "Making video film and animation" (for kids 8 to 12 years old).

In the "Cultural Mosaic", the kids had fun playing an ice-breaker game: each one imitated an animal and tried to locate another kid imitating the same animal. Among dogs, rabbits, cats, monkeys and elephants the activity was completed and each kid introduced him/herself by name, age and country where they and their parents were born. In the second activity the children sang two songs for children, "Itzi, Bitzi spider" and the song of the old rat.

After the snack, they played a game of “it” outdoors.

In the second hour they were shown the map of Latin America and Spain, and colored the map and identified the country from which their parents and / or they come from. We ended the session by playing in teams. Working in teams, the kids had to imitate an animal and the other team had to guess what it was. They had fun imitating, playing and competing.

On October 4 they used watercolors and brushes to paint the flags of their countries amidst music, songs and nursery rhymes. We also went to the lab to use computers in an educational game related to the theme of the workshop.

In the video workshop, the older kids were very participative and it was very gratifying to see how they can agree and comment on different topics. We decided that our project will be to make 3 video clips on 3 different countries: Perú, Puerto Rico and Spain. We will work for 3 Sundays per country and we will discuss their dances, music, cuisine and sights. The kids will make a video clip through interviews, will imitate characters, draw and all this will be included in the video clip. The activity directed toward getting to know us was very good because the students could talk about all the things they like and their hobbies. The idea of ​​using technology in this workshop attracted all of them.

Last Sunday they worked in the laboratory for almost the whole class to advance their research. The next session they will be using cameras to record their interviews and video clips.

Debido a la cantidad de interesad@s, estaremos abriendo un segundo taller para el otoño, dirigido especialmente a l@s niñ@s de 8-12 años.

 El Círculo Juvenil de Cultura invita a todos los niños y niñas hispanohablantes
de edades entre 8-12 años al:

Taller: “Realización de cine y video de animación”
Ven a crear tu propia película en español con un grupo de amigos.
Objetivo: Introducir a los niños(as) en el conocimiento del lenguaje
de la animación y desarrollar sus capacidades para inventar y producir
videos de animación con diferentes objetos fabricados por ellos
mientras hacen uso de la lengua Española.
Descripción: Los Talleres se basan en un proceso de trabajo con diferentes
medios y modalidades expresivas y artísticas, con el objetivo
de facilitar la propia habilidad de expresarse y de poder despertar
nuevas perspectivas sobre temas de interés actual en los países latinos/
hispanos.

Inicia el domingo 25 de septiembre y finaliza el domingo 4 de

de edades entre 6 -12 años al: 

Taller: Mosaico Cultural Hispano/Latino

Ven a conocer más sobre la música, cuentos, baile y cultura
de los países hispanos/latinos  

Objetivo:

Explorar, investigar y despertar el interés de los niños por aprender sobre la cultura de los países de donde proceden  ellos y sus padres, así como fortalecer la comunicación del español y formar o reforzar amistad con otr@s chic@s hispanohablantes.

Nuevo taller en preparación...!

Ya de regreso después de las vacaciones, nos encontramos preparando los detalles para el nuevo taller de otoño. Como todos los semestres, tenemos muchos planes y deseos de que este taller sea siempre mejor que los anteriores y que cumpla nuestros objetivos fundamentales: ofrecerle a los niños y niñas de Pgh. la oportunidad de reforzar y desarrollar su conocimiento lingüístico y cultural en español al tiempo que conocen y crean amistad con otros niños y niñas hispanos que también son bilingües y viven en la localidad.
