Hoy, El Círculo comenzó con un juego de Bingo con palabras de la canción "El portal de Belén". L@s niñ@s tuvieron que completar toda su hoja de bingo para ganar. Después del juego, l@s niñ@s se dividieron en dos grupos para comenzar diferentes actividades. Un grupo estuvo centrado en la música y el otro se centró en el arte.
L@s niñ@s que estaban en la sala de canto empezaron con la práctica de ritmo. Este grupo se dividió a su vez en dos secciones y a cada sección se le dio un ritmo para imitar con aplausos. Los ritmos eran difíciles al principio tanto para l@s nin@s como para l@s voluntari@s también. Entonces, la instructora les dio ritmos más fáciles. L@s niñ@s tuvieron la oportunidad de practicar dos canciones: "Campana sobre campana" y "El portal de Belén". Much@s de l@s niñ@s estaban cansad@s hoy, y por eso fue un poco difícil encontrar a alguien que se ofreciera para cantar un solo. Por suerte, el niño que cantó el solo la semana pasada decidió hacerlo otra vez hoy. El canto fue la última actividad que ese grupo hizo antes de que cambiara con el grupo de arte. Porque era un día soleado y cálido, decidimos sacar a los niños a jugar zombie tag.
Después del juego de zombies, l@s niñ@s regresaron adentro. Hoy, comieron plátanos, mandarinas y galletas para la merienda. Después, los grupos intercambiaron las actividades. En la sala de arte, teníamos instructores que comunicaban la importancia del reciclaje. Usaban papel reciclado para hacer decoraciones de papel picado tradicionales en las celebraciones del Día de los Muertos. L@s niñ@s eligieron de un montón diez pedazos de papel y con ellos cortaron círculos, corazones, triángulos y cuadrados. Cuando abrieron los papeles, encontraron maravillosos diseños de las formas que cortaron. L@s voluntari@s ayudaron a l@s niñ@s a colgar sus diez papeles en una cadena de unos 12 metros para que pudieran llevarlos a sus casas. Después, era hora de que los niños se fueran y nos despedimos hasta la próxima sesión.



    Today’s session of Círculo began with a game of Bingo focusing on words from the song “El portal de Belen.” But instead of only having to get one row, the children had to cover their whole bingo sheet to win. After the game the group of children was split into two groups to do different activities. One group focused on music and the other focused on art.
    For the group of kids that stood in the music room, we started off with rhythm practice. The group was split into two sections and each section was given a rhythm to clap. The first set of rhythms was difficult for both the students and volunteers. Therefore, the music instructor gave easier rhythms to clap the second time around. Next, the students had the chance to practice two songs: “Campana sobre campana” and “El Portal de Belen.” Since many of the children were tired today, it was a bit difficult to find someone to volunteer for a solo. Luckily, however, the boy who sang the solo last week decided to do it again today. The singing was the last activity the music group did before they switched with the art group. But before the switch, we decided to take the kids out to play zombie tag since it was a sunny and warm day.
    After zombie tag the students came back inside for snack. Today we ate bananas, tangerines, and cookies. Following snack time, the two groups of students switched activities. The group that before had done music got the chance to do art now. In the art room we had guest instructors who valued the importance of recycling. By using recycled paper, they taught the students how to do paper cutting decorations that are often seen during Día de los muertos celebrations. The kids picked a pile of about ten pieces of patterned paper and then folded them and began cutting out geometric shapes like circles, hearts, triangles, and squares. Then when they opened the papers, they had marvelous designs from the shapes they cut out. The volunteers then helped the students hang their ten papers on a string of about 12 feet so the students could hang up their artwork at home. After getting the chance to attend both activity stations, it was time for the kids to go home and we said our goodbyes until next session.
