Sesión 8: Carnaval en Guatemala (¡Gracias a Unión Latinx!)

Este domingo tuvimos la visita muy especial del grupo Unión Latinx de Allegheny College. Además de hacer el viaje hasta Pittsburgh para conocer y compartir la tarde con l@s chic@s, Unión Latinx nos hizo entrega de unos regalitos para l@s chic@s y del dinero que recolectaron en su evento “Nacho Libre” a beneficio del Círculo Juvenil. Este dinero que generosamente nos han traído será destinado al pago de becas para participantes del Círculo Juvenil que lo necesiten.

L@s amig@s de Unión Latinx participaron con nosotr@s de un juego de "Wah" que hicimos como calentamiento, y luego nos acompañaron afuera, aprovechando el buen tiempo, para terminar de pintar nuestras máscaras. La máscara que pintaron para nosotr@s fue un regalo más que atesoraremos.

Durante la merienda, Unión Latinx nos hizo una presentación que prepararon sobre el carnaval en Guatemala, incluyendo unos videos sobre la confección de “cascarones” y otro en que vari@s chic@s hablaban de sus disfraces y de las actividades de esa fecha. 

Durante la segunda hora del taller, nos acompañaron al ensayo con el Corito, y luego siguieron su camino de regreso a su lugar de estudio en Allegheny College. Fue un gran placer tenerles, y agradecemos nuevamente su generosidad y trabajo en beneficio de nuestro grupo de chic@s.

This Sunday we had a very special visit from Unión Latinx of Allegheny College. Beside making the trip to Pittsburgh in order to get to know us and share the afternoon with the children, they made us a delivery of small gifts for the kids and a gift of money they had collected in their event, “Nacho Libre” to benefit Círculo Juvenil. This money that they generously brought us will be put towards scholarships for the participants of Circulo Juvenil that need the money. 


The friends of the Unión Latinx participated with us in a game of Wah that we did as an icebreaker, and then they accompanied us outside, taking advantage of the good weather, in order to finish painting our masks. The mask that they painted for us was a gift that will be more than cherished. 

During snack time, Unión Latinx did a presentation that they prepared about the Carnival of Guatemala, including some videos about the making of “cascarones” or “eggshells” and another in which various children talked about their costumes and of the activities of that date. During the second hour of the workshop, they accompanied us to a rehearsal of “Corito,” and then they headed back to their study in Allegheny College. It was a great pleasure to have them and we thank them for their generosity and work in benefiting our group of kids.
